It is summer time, and for the past few weeks the Wilkinson Rhodes team has been on the go! Our travels have taken us to the following: Wilmington, Portland, New Orleans, San Diego, Las Vegas, and other exciting places. From Weddings to Comic Con, we're going to talk about our favorite experiences throughout our work travels.
"Portlandia"
Not only do we love creating weddings, we love attending them as well. When we received the invitation to the beat the Texas heat and venture to Portland, Oregon for a friend's multicultural DIY Wedding, we jumped at the opportunity.
![]() Our first stop upon arrival was Voo Doo Doughnut. These doughnuts have been written up from People Magazine to GQ to the Washington Post and featured on "Man vs. Food" as well as "No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain." We walked up to the colorful, glittering brick building and got in line (as we had no reservations as well). We waited in line for a little over half an hour to procure one of these delectable treats, which apparently is short in comparison to most mornings. ![]() Our doughnut of choice was the raspberry filled Voo Doo fellow you see to the right. Although the choices of the captain my captain (captain crunch) and dirt (oreo) doughnut were close contenders. With confections in hand, the Portland Saturday Market was our next stop to check out local artisans, breweries, and street musicians. ![]() Saturday evening, we attend our friend's wedding in Oregon City. The couple is incredible -- they met studying environmental law, share a love of dogs and the great outdoors. For their wedding, they infused this love of spending time on lavender farm's and hiking through their wedding website which included 3 "planned" day trips guests could take during their stay in Oregon. The lavender farm (which was the proposal site) also influenced the color palette, invitations, menu cards, and favors for the guests. The biggest surprise of the evening was when the couple had two Chinese Dragons dancing for the prosperity, and good fortune of the couple. The groom's family is Chinese and this was such a thoughtful touch. Guests were all very entertained by the dragons as well through their playful movement and accompanying movement. |

We concluded our weekend getaway by taking one of the couple's recommended day tours. This included a much needed brunch at Multnomah Falls Lodge. After reversing some of the prior night's damage, we hiked to the top of Multnomah Falls and continued our journey throughout the Mount Hood/ Columbia Gorge area. We also picked lavender on a farm and visited a vineyard. Overall, it was a pretty exciting weekend.
So what were our favorite things in Portland? We definitely recommend the Multnomah Falls hike and the International Rose Test Garden. Safe travels!
