Wilkinson's career, however, did not begin in event planning and execution. During the mid 1970's, she partnered with R&G Limited, International Antique Importers. With her love of art, history and design expertise, she facilitated the growth of R&G Limited into a premier antiques importer and retained a list of clients that ranged from private collectors to world renowned retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's. Additionally, the company provided interior design services and decorative objects to national restaurant chains such as Chili's, Houlihan's and The Black Eyed Pea. In 1982, Wilkinson expanded her knowledge of interior design and antiques into the retail environment. She opened two separate shops. One shop focused solely on European antiques and interior design, while the other focused on exclusive seasonal items and imported gourmet foods. Wilkinson, also, began executing events as a volunteer for a variety of non-profit organizations. She planned and executed events for the Ecumenical Center for Religious Health, San Antonio Zoological Society, Witte Museum, San Antonio Symphony Ball and the San Antonio Museum of Art. Finally, in 2003, Wilkinson began the Wilkinson-Rhodes event company. In only one short year, Wilkinson began party planning for the stars when Buena Vista Pictures and Disney accepted her proposal for the premier party for the movie, "The Alamo." The party included 35,000 square feet of Texan themed tent space in the Alamo Plaza Park with the Alamo brightly lit in the background. Following "The Alamo" premier, Wilkinson continued creating spaces in and around San Antonio. In 2007, she was recognized by the Special Event Magazine Gala awards for her creative work on a debutant party entitled, "An Evening of Asian Splendor." This Gion meets Ginza experience was produced at the clients home where the estate was transformed into an authentic Japanese tea garden experience. Among the many delights provided, guests were entertained by a custom designed living Geisha fountain, a contemporary Chinese dance tope, Moo Moo, the iPOD performer and two fabulous bands brought in from Los Angeles. Wilkinson was nominated one of three in the following categories: Best Social Event, Best Invitation, and Best Entertainment Production. She received the highly coveted Gala Award for Best Event Production. This event was also awarded the most prestigious award given by the National Association for Catering Executive in the category of Best Event Production for the year of 2007. Billinda Wilkinson's knowledge, experience, and impeccable taste has made her one of the premier event planners and producers in Texas. She can transform any space into a fantasy world where the client and their guests are entertained and their every need is catered to.
